Are you able to offer your home and heart in the UK to help and offer a Kerry blue Terrier a new chance in life?
Fostering a dog can be an incredibly rewarding experience; knowing you are helping a dog prepare for their loving forever homes. When fostering you have the full support of the rescue and all costs are covered. All we ask is that you are able to commit to 6 weeks looking after a Kerry and work with us to help determine what sort of home is the ideal environment for the dog to spend the rest of their lives. We currently have 3 dogs in need of foster homes and their love is waiting. If you have a home waiting or would like to know more then please email the rescue on kerrybluerescue@gmail.com Many thanks Kerry Blue Terrier Rescue.

We can't believe just how quickly the last year has gone and what a year it's been and we can't thank each and every one of our supporters and volunteers enough as without you none of this just wouldn't be possible.
We had always intended to do a website but it took a little while longer than anticipated but how important it's turned out to be. It's fair to say that we wouldn't have the interest, support, following or help without the website and social media. The last 12 months since we launched the website (5th June 2016) we have seen the Rescue move at a staggering pace and continually evolve. The Facebook page has seen it's followers more than double to nearly 500, the instagram page now has over 200 followers and we've received over 30,000 hits on the website with over 60,000 page views. We are really proud of how far the Rescue has come and how much of a difference it's made to the lives of Kerrys (and their families) in need of help and support. Whilst we'd had some successful rehomings prior to the website going live it was only once we had launched the site that the interest in the rescue really took off. Sadly as a result so did the amount of Kerrys that needed rehoming, however at least with the rescue we can ensure that they are rehomed appropriately with love, understanding and care. To find out more about the last 12 months and the Kerrys we've helped then please read on....... Our Rehoming Process We take our role in rehoming any Kerry who comes through the Rescue with the upmost respect, care and seriousness. We aim to match all of the Kerrys to be rehomed to the lifestyles and circumstances of any potential new families and pride ourselves on finding the right loving forever home for each and every dog. Our main priority is that the dog is the perfect match for any potential family to minimise the need to a dog to have to make any unnecessary adjustments.
We get a lot of interest via social media for our dogs but then sometimes we struggle to get further information from that party. We also respect that giving a Kerry up for rehoming is sometimes a heartbreaking decision for their families and so we will require any potential new family be subject to numerous checks.
We hope you understand the need for the above to ensure that any of the Kerrys who come through this Rescue have the very best chance as it will always be about the Kerry. The UK based Kerry Blue Terrier Rescue is delighted to announce that as of Wednesday 22nd March 2017 the Kennel Club have added us to their list of recommended breed specific rescues. This is an incredible achievement for us in what is a relatively short space of time and is true testimony to the professionalism and dedication of everyone involved with the Rescue. We are so proud that we've been recognised by the Kennel Club for the work that we're doing in helping re-home and rescue Kerry Blues and find them their loving forever homes. The Kennel Club listing was always part of our future goals and we are delighted to have achieved it. This will really help us reach out to more people who are interested in this adorable breed. This has come back on the recent announcements that both the Kerry Blue Terrier Club of England and Kerry Blue Terrier Association have also endorsed our Rescue. The Kennel Club listing wouldn't have happened had the two clubs not acknowledged the work we are doing and offered their overwhelming support and backing. We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank both clubs and their committee's for the overwhelming support that they have shown us. We would also like to also thank each and everyone of our supporters who have offered their help, time, support, advice or guidance since we started. You have all helped shape the Rescue and we wouldn't be where we are today without you. www.thekennelclub.org.uk/services/public/findarescue/display.aspx?breed=3071&id=2670 Thank you all again and best wishes from all of the team at Kerry Blue Terrier Rescue. Are you able to offer one of our Kerry Blue Terrier's a loving forever home or able to help the rescue by providing a much needed foster home?
We currently (20th March 2017) are looking for forever homes for 6 Kerry Blue's. We have 3 Kerry Blue's in foster homes being assessed and a further 1 coming into foster next week. We have 1 dog being rehomed next week and a further two dogs (currently residing with their present owners) looking for their forever homes. Foster The rescue has never been this busy and as we are not a Kennel based organisation we rely on volunteers to help foster Kerry's waiting for their future loving families to come forward. This is an extremely rewarding role and all costs are covered by the rescue. Adoption Whilst we have an active waiting list of forever homes they all offer different situations and circumstances and we don't work on a first come first serve basis as every home has to the the right and perfect match for the Kerry. If you're interested in offering a loving forever home to an adorable Kerry then please do get in touch. For all enquiries please contact the rescue on kerrybluerescue@gmail.com Please also visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/groups/417916765022877/ Are you an Asthma Sufferer? My journey towards Nelson started in September 2016 with a speculative e-mail to the rescue. Just to give you some background, I have been a life long asthma sufferer with an allergy to dogs (amongst other animals) and for this reason I never thought I would be able to own one. That was until circumstances took a twist and I found myself living back at my parents following a divorce, while I was awaiting the completion of a new build property. They have two miniature schnauzers, which I found I was able to tolerate well with the use of a standard daily antihistamine. It was this experience that put the idea in to my head that I may be able to own a dog. Following much research on the internet, the Kerry Blue Terrier was a breed that was coming up time and again as being a good dog for allergy sufferers. This prompted me to research the dog in more depth and what came up was really encouraging, the only down side being possible dog aggression common within the breed. Not wanting to take the internet as being the gospel truth, I made contact via e-mail with the rescue. What I got was an almost immediate response from Mark Buckley, despite being on holiday with his family at the time. Now the purpose of my contact at the time was to get insight into the breed with a view to buying a puppy, however Mark allowed be to join the recue group facebook page and I was immediately won over by the great work that was going on. Mark had suggested that I foster a dog for a short time to see how I got on, but I pretty much knew that if I did that I would have difficulty letting the dog go. Mark was generous with his time and advice and to cut a long story short put me I touch with Bridie Moriarty in November, also attached to the rescue. I arranged to visit Bridie so that I could spend some time with her two lovely dogs to see how my allergy reacted, and I am happy to report that there wasn't a reaction at all. From this point I was expecting a long wait for a dog to come along which would be suitable for me, but to my surprise I was contacted the following week to be told that a change in circumstances meant that a dog had become available and thus began my partnership with Nelson, who arrived with me at the beginning of December. Since then myself and Nelson have become firm friends. We are rarely out of each others company and he has slipped into our family effortlessly. I have to say that everything that I had read and been told about the breed has manifested itself in Nelson. He is an incredibly loving and bright dog, who is absolutely fantastic with all people but can also be feisty with other dogs when out walking. I certainly couldn't be without him now. For anyone with asthma and allergies I would highly recommend the Kerry as a great breed for you. I have had Nelson now for nearly 4 months and while I can't claim that I have been totally unaffected by him, the reaction has been very minor compared to other dog breeds. A quick visit to my GP for a slight change to my prescription and now the impact of having him around is practically zero on the negative health side compared to the exercise I get with him and the love and affection that comes back. The rescue would like to say a massive thank you to all it's volunteers and supporter as this rescue wouldn't be able to function without you. In the five months since September the rescue has paid over £700 in vet bills alone for the various Kerrys we've in our foster care and this has only been possible thanks to those of you who purchased one of our calendars or very generously made a donation. As a newly formed organisation it is our intention to ask for funds on an as needed basis and whilst we have some funds available for emergency bills we would like to ask for funds to cover some specific cases. Ben requires another visit to the vets tomorrow and we will be putting Brody through some sessions with a behaviouralist. In addition we will soon be taking Flynn into foster who will also require some behavioural training of some description. If you can spare even a small donation we would love to hear from you. Please drop Emma an email at kbtr.sales@gmail.com and she will send you all the various payment details. Many thanks for your continued support. Your help really is changing the lives of rescued and rehomed Kerry Blues. Kind Regards All the team at Kerry Blue Rescue. Kerry is a simply adorable 4 year old Kerry Blue girl who is looking for her forever home through no fault of her own. Her owner is heartbroken at having to re-home her due to family illness and she wants her to go to a loving home. Kerry is a really great loving girl who is very friendly with people and loves company and is incredibly loyal. She loves her walks and walks really well on the lead and loves telling you what she wants. Kerry is great with children and loves to play with them and would make a brilliant family dog. She hasn't spent much time around other dogs but on walks hasn't shown any aggressive tendencies. She does love to chase other animals however......oh and will chase a horse or two. This is a girl who really deserves and belongs in a really loving family home. If interested then please email the rescue. kerrybluerescue@gmail.com Finn and Cara are looking for their perfect loving forever home through no fault of their own. Due to a change in circumstances for their family they've had to make the heartbreaking decision to re-home them. The Northern Ireland Kerry rescue is seeking a new home for a couple of fantastic Kerry blues. Cara is a 4 Year old girl and Finn a great young boy who hasn't quite reached a year. Any new home will be well vetted. This pair get on great together and are fantastic with people, children and other dogs, (unaware of their feeling towards cats). If you , or you know of a good home please Contact Darwin Martin on the email address below rescue@gaelgorm.com This is the adorable Ben who is currently looking for his loving forever home. Ben has been in foster with the rescue since mid December. Ben needed to have a growth removed and ongoing eye condition rectified before we could offer him for adoption. We are delighted to say that he now has a clean bill of health and is fully up to date with all vaccinations. We were asked to help Ben after his owner could no longer have him; he had been in a boarding kennels for three months prior to him coming to us and spent a lot of time over the previous two years in the same kennels Ben has been in foster with another Kerry and has shown no signs of aggression. He's also been great when doggy visitors have come round to pay him a visit. Ben (In true Kerry spirit) is an energetic boy for his age and loves to play. He is also an inquisitive boy and into everything, Ben occasionally pulls on the lead but we are working on this and having been in kennels for so long he does occasionally forget where he should go to the toilet. He is eager to please and learning quickly. Ben is a really loving boy who loves a cuddle and loves to play with both dog and people alike. Once he's had his play, he's loves to lie down and chill out with you or the resident dog. Ben has also been great with the foster's children. We will consider rehoming Ben with other dogs and with children. If you're interested in giving beautiful Ben the loving forever home he deserves then please get in touch at the email address below. kerrybluerescue@gmail.com |
